Medininagar (Jharkhand), Sep 22 (PTI) Two persons have been arrested and over 9 kg of opium worth around Rs 48 lakh was seized from their possession in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, police said on Tuesday.
The arrests were made during raids in two separate locations under Chhatarpur police station limits, police said.
Palamu Superintendent of Police (SP) Kapil Chaudhary said they received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of illicit narcotics.
“A police team was subsequently formed to devise a strategy to apprehend the smugglers. A vehicle check was initiated at night on Karma Charai Road, during which a motorcycle was spotted approaching at high speed near Pathalgarha,” he said.
Upon seeing the police, the rider attempted to flee but was apprehended by the team.
The man was identified as Ranjan Rajak (36), a resident of Dumaria village in Bihar’s Gaya district, and 2.66 kg of opium was recovered from his possession.
On information provided by Rajak, one Dayanand Prasad was arrested and 7 kg of opium was recovered from his residence, he said.
