Tadepalli, Sep 25: Former Andhra Pradesh minister and YSRCP leader Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani) on Friday accused the Chandrababu Naidu government of using the police machinery to suppress opposition protests over alleged irregularities in the DSC recruitment process.
Nani alleged that the government was attempting to shield alleged irregularities associated with the DSC sports quota and demanded a comprehensive CBI probe into the matter.
Nani alleged that YSRCP workers had gone peacefully to submit a representation to the SAAP MD seeking an investigation into the alleged irregularities. According to him, clashes took place in the presence of police and YSRCP members were subsequently booked under serious sections, including an attempt-to-murder charge and provisions of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
He questioned why those allegedly responsible for the attacks had not faced similar action and accused the police of acting selectively.
“Even if cases are filed and our cadres are sent to jail, the YSRCP’s fight will continue until the alleged irregularities in the DSC recruitment process are investigated,” Nani said.
The former minister further alleged that the government was preparing to use criminal cases against YSRCP leaders ahead of the forthcoming municipal elections.
He claimed that between 800 and 1,000 politically active YSRCP leaders could be targeted through criminal cases and alleged that the objective was to keep them in custody during the election period.
