Vijayawada, Sep 23: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday criticised the Chandrababu Naidu government over the Supreme Court’s directions in the Saikrishna custodial death case in Vijayawada.
Jagan said the case raises serious questions about the functioning of the police and the alleged misuse of official power under the present government. He alleged that children were being used for illegal activities, including the sale of ganja, and questioned the role played by the police in the case.
Reacting to the Supreme Court’s observations and directions, Jagan described them as a “slap on the face” of the Chandrababu Naidu government. He particularly referred to the court questioning why senior police officials, including the Commissioner of Police and the Director General of Police, had not been included in the list of accused.
Jagan alleged that a child was arrested and taken into custody, where he was allegedly beaten to death, and further claimed that the body was subsequently made to disappear.He said the incident showed the kind of alleged atrocities taking place in the heart of the city under the Chandrababu government.
Referring to what he called the “Red Book Constitution,” Jagan alleged that the case was another example of police excesses and the misuse of authority.
