Vijayawada, Sep 26: YSRCP leaders on Saturday warned of a statewide agitation if arrests and cases against party leaders, workers and participants in the Mega DSC-2025 protest continue. They also demanded an immediate end to what they described as midnight arrests and urged the police to follow the law.
The leaders submitted a representation to the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate regarding the cases and arrests following the September 21 protest outside the SAAP office over alleged irregularities in the Mega DSC-2025 recruitment process.
The delegation met the Deputy Commissioner of Police and later addressed the media outside the Commissionerate.
YSRCP Questions Police Handling of DSC Protest
MLC Lella Appi Reddy alleged that the YSRCP had sought permission to conduct a peaceful rally but was denied permission. He questioned why a large group of teachers was allegedly allowed inside the SAAP premises.
He also questioned why the police allegedly failed to prevent the two groups from coming face to face despite being aware of the possibility of a confrontation.
Appi Reddy said the incident was captured by media organisations, drones and cameras, and that the available footage would help establish what happened during the protest.
Ambati Questions Midnight Arrests and Cases
Former minister Ambati Rambabu questioned the manner in which the arrests were being handled. He said that if cases had been registered against around 300 people, those accused could appear before the police voluntarily.
However, he objected to what he described as late-night visits to the homes of accused persons and alleged intimidation of their families.
Ambati also questioned the use of Section 307 in the case, arguing that there were no weapons or serious injuries according to his account of the incident. He further raised objections to the registration of SC/ST Act cases and alleged selective action by the police.
YSRCP Seeks Answers on Mega DSC-2025 Recruitment
Former minister Sake Sailajanath alleged that irregularities had emerged in the recruitment process and demanded that the government provide clear answers.
He said the government should accept responsibility for any lapses in the Mega DSC-2025 recruitment process and sought accountability from the concerned minister over the allegations.
Devineni Avinash Questions Rally Permissions
NTR district YSRCP president Devineni Avinash questioned why permission was allegedly denied to the YSRCP while rallies organised by other political parties were permitted on Bandar Road.
He also alleged that arrangements at the protest venue contributed to tensions during the September 21 incident.
YSRCP Says DSC Issue Will Be Pursued
The YSRCP leaders said the party would continue to pursue the DSC recruitment issue and the cases arising from the September 21 protest through legal and constitutional channels.
They warned that if the authorities do not reconsider the action against party leaders and workers, the YSRCP could launch statewide protest programmes in Andhra Pradesh.
The leaders reiterated their demand that the police stop midnight detentions and ensure that further action in connection with the DSC protest is taken strictly according to law.
