New Delhi, Oct 13: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over opposition protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Shah predicted that the Congress would face another major defeat in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, claiming that the people of India continue to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Shah said the Congress should prepare for another electoral setback. He also criticised the party’s political approach, arguing that its negative politics would not help it regain public support.
Amit Shah Predicts Another Congress Defeat in 2029
Amit Shah directly addressed Rahul Gandhi and his associates, predicting a decisive victory for the NDA in the 2029 general elections.
He said the NDA would win with a strong majority, while the Congress would face defeat for the fourth consecutive time.
Shah claimed that the BJP, the NDA and Prime Minister Narendra Modi continue to enjoy public support across the country. He said the Congress leadership must recognise this political reality and rethink its strategy.
The Home Minister’s remarks came amid opposition protests targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Shah Criticises Rahul Gandhi Over SIR Controversy
Shah also targeted Rahul Gandhi over the opposition’s criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
He questioned whether the current controversy surrounding voter list revisions could explain the Congress party’s repeated electoral defeats. Shah argued that the SIR process began only after the 2024 general elections.
According to Shah, the Congress had continued to lose elections since Rahul Gandhi became a leading figure in the party, later serving as its president and subsequently becoming the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
He urged Gandhi to examine the reasons behind the party’s electoral performance rather than focus on protests and political campaigns.
Amit Shah Accuses Congress of Negative Politics
The Home Minister alleged that the Congress was relying on negative politics and media events instead of building a stronger connection with voters.
Shah said the opposition party needed to understand the concerns of ordinary people and work to regain their confidence.
He also criticised what he described as attempts to spread false narratives through public campaigns. According to Shah, such strategies would not help the Congress win the trust of voters.
His comments reflect the continuing political confrontation between the BJP-led NDA and the Congress over electoral issues and the conduct of democratic institutions.
Shah Raises Allegations Over Infiltrators and Voter Registration
Amit Shah further accused Rahul Gandhi of supporting efforts to register infiltrators as voters. He claimed that the people of India were aware of Gandhi’s alleged plans.
These remarks came amid the wider political debate over electoral roll revisions, voter registration and the role of the Election Commission.
The Congress and other opposition parties have raised concerns about electoral processes and the functioning of election authorities. The latest exchange has added to the political tensions between the ruling alliance and the opposition.
Political Battle Intensifies Ahead of 2029 Elections
Amit Shah’s remarks highlight the growing political contest between the BJP-led NDA and the Congress as both sides continue to defend their positions on electoral issues.
While Shah expressed confidence in another NDA victory in 2029, he called on Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leadership to reconsider their political approach.
The Congress’s response to these remarks and the continuing debate over electoral roll revisions are likely to remain important topics in the national political discussion.
Shah’s prediction of a decisive NDA victory remains a political claim, with the outcome of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections ultimately depending on the voters.
