New Delhi, Oct 7: Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and their supporters for allegedly entering the Akashvani Bhawan premises without permission during the opposition’s protest against the Election Commission on October 6.

According to Delhi Police officials, the FIR was registered following a complaint alleging that Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other opposition MPs entered the Akashvani Bhawan premises without the required permission.

The two Congress leaders were among around 260 people detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday after an INDIA bloc march towards the Election Commission office was stopped. The protesters later staged an over eight-hour sit-in inside the Akashvani Bhawan premises.

The opposition parties were protesting against what they alleged were irregularities in the functioning of the Election Commission under Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They also raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged “vote chori”.

Delhi Police said the INDIA bloc parties had planned to march from Parliament House to the Election Commission office on Tuesday. However, police said no application seeking permission for the march was submitted to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi.

Police also said that no permission had been granted for the proposed march.

The FIR against Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi comes a day after the large-scale opposition protest in the national capital, during which several opposition MPs and supporters were detained by police.
