Bihar, Sept 21: A disturbing incident involving two Class 10 students in Bihar’s Jamui district has sparked outrage after a video showing them being harassed and assaulted by a group of men went viral on social media.
According to reports, the minor boy and girl had visited the popular Madwa Pahad area and were returning on a scooter when a group of men allegedly stopped them. The group reportedly abused and physically assaulted the two students and prevented them from leaving the spot.
The video circulating on social media shows members of the group confronting the boy and girl. At one point, the girl is allegedly grabbed and manhandled while the boy attempts to intervene. The group also reportedly forced the two minors to apologise before eventually allowing them to leave.
The incident came to light after the video was widely circulated online, prompting the police to take cognisance of the matter. Police questioned the two minors and began efforts to identify those involved. Three people have reportedly been arrested, while the search for other accused persons is continuing.
The incident has also triggered a political reaction. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemned the alleged harassment and called for action against the accused under the POCSO Act, citing the fact that both victims are minors.
The Congress also criticised the Bihar government over the incident and raised questions about the safety of women and children in the state. These political reactions are part of the wider debate surrounding the incident and law-and-order issues in Bihar.
Police are continuing their investigation and are examining the viral video and other evidence to establish the full sequence of events and identify everyone involved.
