Andhra Pradesh, Oct 31: A shocking incident took place at a government school in Rapthadu, Andhra Pradesh, where a Class 10 student was brutally attacked with an electric chainsaw inside her classroom. The girl sustained severe injuries, including injuries to her face and the loss of her right hand, and was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Her condition was reported to be critical.

Another girl student was also injured while attempting to stop the attacker.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 10:30 AM at Rapthadu Zilla Parishad High School. The attacker entered the classroom and assaulted the student with an electric cutting machine. He reportedly fled the school after leaving the machine at the scene.

The injured student was identified as Gopika, a Class 10 student from Ayyavaripalle village. Doctors are providing emergency medical care as she continues to fight for her life.

Accused Identified, Arrested at Dharmavaram Railway Station

Police identified the accused as Hemanth, a native of Nagaluru village in Dharmavaram mandal. He was reportedly taken into custody at Dharmavaram railway station following the attack.

According to preliminary reports, Hemanth had been staying with his elder sister in Ayyavaripalle after losing his parents. He is also suspected to be a relative of the victim.

Initial reports suggest that the attack may have been motivated by the student’s rejection of his romantic advances. Police are investigating the circumstances and motive behind the incident.

School Headmaster Explains How the Attack Happened

The school headmaster said that construction work was underway on the school premises and that several workers had been visiting the school as part of the ongoing work.

The attack took place inside the classroom at around 10:30 AM, while a teacher was reportedly present. The headmaster said that the school staff did not notice the attacker entering the premises.

He also confirmed that another girl sustained injuries while trying to intervene. The attacker reportedly left the electric cutting machine behind and escaped after carrying out the assault.

Victim’s Family Questions School Security

The incident has triggered anger among the victim’s relatives, who questioned how a person carrying an electric cutting machine could enter a government school without being noticed.

They raised serious concerns over the absence of adequate security and questioned what the teachers and school authorities were doing when the attacker entered the premises.

The victim’s aunt said that the girl regularly travelled to school by auto and had never informed the family about anyone harassing or threatening her.

She demanded the strictest possible punishment for the accused, stating that he should not be spared even if he belongs to their own family.

YS Jagan Condemns Rapthadu School Attack, Slams TDP Coalition Government

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy strongly condemned the brutal attack on the Class 10 student.

In a post on social media, Jagan described the incident as evidence of the collapse of law and order under the TDP-led coalition government.

He questioned how an attacker could freely enter a government school and brutally assault a young girl inside her classroom, highlighting the government’s failure to ensure the safety of children even within educational institutions.

Jagan also expressed concern over the second student who sustained injuries while trying to protect her classmate.

Criticising the government’s focus on political vendetta and what he described as ‘Red Book’ rule, Jagan alleged that criminals were operating without fear of the law.

He demanded immediate and high-quality emergency medical treatment for the injured students, along with proper support for their families.

Jagan further called for the immediate arrest of the attacker, a transparent investigation, and an urgent review of school safety measures across Andhra Pradesh. He also demanded accountability from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh.

The incident has raised serious questions about security arrangements in government schools and the safety of girl students across Andhra Pradesh.
