New Delhi, Oct 3 Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav on Saturday demanded a government job and financial assistance for a 20-year-old man injured in a house collapse in outer Delhi, saying the aid would help his family rebuild their home.
According to an official statement, Yadav visited the site in the Nangloi Assembly constituency to meet the affected family and express condolences.
The visit came two days after a 50-year-old man, identified as Samsuhal, died and his 20-year-old son Soheb was injured when their house collapsed in Jwalapuri near Udyog Nagar Metro station on Thursday.
The two were rescued by a Delhi Fire Services team and taken to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, where the father was declared dead. The son was admitted with a back injury, officials had said.
Alleging a lack of timely response from the authorities, Yadav said the incident exposed the Delhi government’s preparedness to deal with emergencies.
“The triple engine BJP government makes tall promises, but when there is an accident or a situation warranting a quick response, the chief minister and her Cabinet are found wanting,” he said in a statement.
He alleged that police remained spectators for hours and the NDRF teams took several hours to reach the spot, while local residents rescued the injured youth and retrieved his father’s body from the debris.
Yadav also demanded financial assistance for poor families living in dilapidated houses across Delhi, alleging that thousands of such structures were at risk of collapse.
“There are thousands of such houses in Delhi on the verge of collapse. If the government provides financial assistance to these families, they can save themselves from such tragedies,” he said.
He also sought action against officials responsible for such incidents, alleging that poor families were bearing the brunt of building collapses due to their inability to repair ageing structures.
There was no immediate statement available from the concerned authorities, as well as the BJP-led Delhi government, on the claims made by Congress.
