Kolkata, Sep 22 (PTI) Heavy rain is likely in several southern West Bengal districts till September 26, under the influence of a depression that is likely to intensify, the IMD said on Tuesday.
It advised fishermen in the state not to venture into the sea till September 25.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather system will cross the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts on Wednesday night.
Heavy rainfall will occur over the coastal districts of South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur and the western districts of Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Birbhum and Paschim Medinipur till September 26, it said.
The IMD said that heavy precipitation will also occur over the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar till September 26.
It warned of possible landslides in the hilly regions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong and waterlogging in the low-lying areas in the plains during the period.
It said that thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds, will occur over many places in West Bengal till September 26.
