Barcelona, Nov 4 (AP) Barcelona midfielder Rodri has a minor hamstring injury and will miss the Spanish league leader’s game at second-place Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
The World Cup winner was forced off at halftime in Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa in the Champions League and was replaced by Marc Bernal. Barcelona said medical tests revealed “a minor injury to his right hamstring.”
It was unclear if the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner will miss more than the Atletico game, with the Catalan club adding that his “exact recovery time will depend on how the injury develops.”
Defending champion Barcelona is two points ahead of Atletico and three clear of Real Madrid after 11 rounds of games.
The 30-year-old Spain captain was a major signing after joining from Manchester City in the offseason.
Rodri has shown signs of fatigue, though. He was put on the bench as a precautionary measure by coach Hansi Flick for Barca’s Champions League match at titleholder Paris Saint-Germain two weeks ago, which PSG won 4-2.
