Amaravati, Sep 16: A fresh controversy has erupted in Andhra Pradesh over the removal of social media posts. A takedown request sent to ‘X’ from the official email address of Guntur police reportedly mentioned the organisation name as “FBI.”
According to reports, ‘X’ initially treated the complaint as one from the US FBI. The platform later clarified that the request had actually come from the Andhra Pradesh police.
YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy questioned the Chandrababu government over the issue. In a social media post, he sarcastically said that “Red Book governance” had now reached the global level.
Jagan asked whether AP police had presented themselves as the US Federal Bureau of Investigation to get social media posts removed. He also questioned whether the government was trying to silence criticism over unfulfilled Super Six promises, alleged irregularities in DSC recruitments, issues related to Amaravati, rising state debt and governance failures.
Jagan raised several key questions: Why was the name “FBI” used in the complaint? Who authorised the takedown request? Were senior police officials aware of it? And how many social media accounts received similar complaints?
The Ap government and police department have yet to provide a clear explanation to these questions.
