Bhubaneswar, Nov 8 At least three persons accompanying a deceased man in a private ambulance from Bhubaneswar to Bolangir were killed, and another was critically injured after the vehicle crashed into a roadside boundary wall in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Sunday, police said.

The accident took place around 5.30 pm near Shalabhanga forest on National Highway-57 within Banigochha police station limits.

The vehicle was allegedly speeding along the deserted forest stretch when its driver lost control, leading to the fatal accident.

The ambulance was carrying the body of Iswar Sahu, a resident of Deogaon village within Tikrapada gram panchayat in Balangir district, who had died at a hospital in Bhubaneswar.

His relatives were accompanying the body, they said.

Police rescued four occupants of the ambulance and rushed them to the nearby Daspalla Community Health Centre (CHC), where three succumbed to their injuries.

Raju, son of the deceased Iswar Sahu, was initially admitted to the health centre.

His condition later deteriorated, following which he was shifted to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), police said.

An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, they added.
