Hyderabad, Sep 12: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who also holds the state education portfolio, outlined a comprehensive roadmap to transform public education during a marathon Assembly speech lasting over two hours
The Chief Minister linked educational reform directly to the state’s long-term economic target of building a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and reaching a $3 trillion economy by 2047 under the “Telangana Rising 2047” vision.
Emphasizing the societal value of schooling, Revanth Reddy stated that the country’s future is shaped inside classrooms and asserted that education remains the primary vehicle for transforming individual destinies
A central feature of the address was the government’s generational strategy, which expands policy planning beyond immediate needs. While public discussions frequently focus on Gen Z, the Chief Minister stressed that the state’s framework actively accommodates Gen Alpha and Gen Beta.
Rather than stopping at current student demographics, the government designed an overarching academic roadmap intended to serve all three generations to ensure long-term economic competitiveness.
To finance these initiatives, the administration committed to significantly expanding fiscal allocations for state schools. Revanth Reddy declared a target to raise education’s share of the total state budget to 15%.
In the interim, the government increased education funding from ₹18,955 crore (6.53%) in 2023–24 under the previous BRS administration to ₹23,729 crore (7.78%) for 2025–26.
Furthermore, an Education Commission was established and has submitted its policy report, which is currently undergoing review by a specialized committee chaired by former MP K. Keshav Rao.
The speech also highlighted several operational upgrades currently underway across public schools. State schools introduced pre-primary classes for the first time, enrolling 64,000 students in their initial year, while total enrollment across government schools expanded by 86,000 students.
To support student health and attendance, free mid-day meals and high-quality breakfasts prepared in centralized kitchens are now provided to both students and teachers from nursery through Class 12.
Addressing opposition critiques regarding ministry leadership, the Chief Minister cited these enrolment figures as direct evidence of progress under his administration.
Finally, the Chief Minister detailed major developments in recruitment, technical education, and financial management. During its first year in office, the Congress government filled 10,006 teacher vacancies within 55 days, contrasting this with the 7,857 teacher posts filled over the previous decade.
To modernize technical training, polytechnic colleges are being integrated under the newly established Young India Skills University to provide students with direct access to modern technology, practical instruction, and industry internships.
Regarding pending financial obligations, the government reported disbursing ₹3,488 crore out of ₹5,430 crore in inherited tuition fee reimbursement dues over 32 months, adding that future payments will be released to institutions that receive a clean chit following a vigilance inquiry.
