New Delhi, Sep 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat and Maharashtra on September 8, where he will launch and inaugurate development projects worth more than ₹35,000 crore and dedicate key infrastructure projects to the nation.
In Vadodara, around noon, the Prime Minister will dedicate three major sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) to the nation. Spread across 326 route kilometres and developed at a cost of more than ₹20,700 crore, the sections connect New Sanand (North)-New Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale and New Saphale-New JNPT.
The commissioning of these sections will provide direct freight connectivity to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), enabling faster movement of export-import cargo, reducing logistics costs and easing congestion on Mumbai’s railway network. With these sections becoming operational, the entire Dedicated Freight Corridor network will be fully operational, strengthening multimodal connectivity and reducing cargo transit time.
Prime Minister will also flag off freight train services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon and New JNPT in Mumbai. A new passenger train service between Tanda Road and Vadodara (Pratapnagar) will also be flagged off.
The Prime Minister will dedicate the Jobat-Tanda Road new railway line, developed under the Chhota Udepur-Dhar project, to the nation. The line will connect remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur with the national railway network.
He will lay the foundation stone for three railway projects covering 329 kilometres, with a combined cost of more than ₹9,700 crore. These include the Vadodara-Ratlam third and fourth railway lines, Miyagam Karjan-Choranda-Malsar gauge conversion and Vishwamitri-Dabhoi doubling project. The projects are aimed at increasing passenger and freight capacity, reducing congestion and improving connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Three National Highway projects costing around ₹1,780 crore will also be launched. They include six-laning of the Kamrej-Chalthan stretch of NH-48, additional structures and major bridges over the Tapi and Narmada on the Vadodara-Surat section of NH-48, and grade-separated structures at Abhava, Mindhola and Khajod junctions on NH-53.
Several Gujarat government projects worth around ₹2,600 crore will also be inaugurated or launched. These include Phase II of the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road, a 110 MW floating solar project at Kadana Dam and a new Vadodara Municipal Corporation office. Housing projects under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and a water-supply project covering 11 villages in eastern Vadodara will also be inaugurated.
Later in the day, at around 5:45 PM, Modi will inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai and address the gathering. The seventh edition of GFF is being held from September 8 to 11 and has emerged as a major international platform bringing together policymakers, regulators, central banks, financial institutions, fintech companies, technology firms, investors and academia to discuss the future of finance.
The theme of GFF 2026 is “Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum – Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance.”
The conference will focus on translating emerging technologies into practical outcomes, with discussions centred on Agentic AI, programmable finance, quantum technologies and other critical technologies. The event will also examine their potential to promote trusted, inclusive and measurable financial solutions for citizens, businesses and economies worldwide.
The Prime Minister’s Gujarat and Maharashtra visit will thus combine major investments in railways, freight infrastructure, highways, renewable energy, housing and water supply with a global forum focused on the next generation of digital finance.
