Mumbai, Sep 22 The ruling Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra has decided to postpone its camp scheduled to be held in Nashik on September 27 in view of the drought-like situation in the state, the party said on Tuesday.
All ministers and MLAs of the party, as well as guardian ministers, have been asked to visit drought-affected areas in their respective districts, interact with farmers and assess their problems, it said.
The decision was taken by NCP president and state Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, according to a party release.
The party said it was not appropriate to hold a meeting or camp when farmers and the common people were facing difficulties due to the prevailing situation. Pawar has decided to stand by farmers, it said.
Following the decision, Pawar directed all party representatives to immediately get involved in relief work, the release said.
Party office-bearers and workers have also been directed to reach out to farmers, understand their problems and ensure that immediate assistance reaches them, according to the release.
