New Delhi,Sep 15: India pacer Jasprit Bumrah added another remarkable milestone to his career during the second T20I against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Bumrah opened the bowling for India and bowled a maiden over in the very first over, taking his tally to 13 maiden overs in T20I cricket. The achievement saw him move past Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava, who has 12 maiden overs, to become the bowler with the most maiden overs in T20Is among players from ICC Full Member nations.
The Indian pacer also made an impact with the ball later in the innings, helping India keep Afghanistan under pressure. Nitish Kumar Reddy was the standout bowler for India, claiming 3 wickets for 24 runs, while Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh also picked up crucial wickets.
Afghanistan, after losing wickets regularly in the middle overs, managed to recover through Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan. The pair added 48 runs to give Afghanistan some momentum at the end of their innings.
Afghanistan eventually finished with 159/8 in 20 overs, setting India a target of 160.
India, however, chased down the target comfortably, scoring 163/3 in 14.5 overs to win the match by seven wickets and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Sanju Samson was the star of India’s chase, scoring a fluent 57, while Abhishek Sharma contributed a quick 39. Their aggressive start put India firmly in control before Tilak Varma and Ishan Kishan completed the chase.
Bumrah’s record maiden over was another reminder of his exceptional control and consistency in the shortest format. With 13 T20I maiden overs now to his name, the Indian speedster continues to strengthen his reputation as one of the most effective fast bowlers in world cricket.
