Kollam(Keralam), Sep 27 Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Sunday said that the world is facing conflicts, humanitarian crises, natural disasters and that humanity needs compassion more than technological advancement to address these challenges.

Radhakrishnan was speaking on the occasion of the 73th bithday of Mata Amritanandmayi, fondly called as ‘Amma’, which is being celebrated as the ‘Vishwas Seva Dinam’ here.

The event was also attended by Keralam Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister V D Satheesan, Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi.

During his address, the vice president said as India progresses towards the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’, development requires infrastructure, technology, investment, innovation and economical growth.

In addition to that, it should also have a human face and touch, he said.

He said that ‘Amma’ plays that role through her selfless love and service to everyone.

“She is not just spiritual, but a miracle also. Her guidelines will help us serve other better,” he said, extending his birthday greetings to her on the occasion.

Arlekar also greeted ‘Amma’ on the occasion, saying her life is an inspiration as it has been devoted to the service of the people.

“That is why this day is being celebrated as the Vishwa Seva Dinam,” he said.

He also said that her life has to be experienced and understood and that it inspires people to do something for others.

Satheesan said the occasion makes one realise that “actions speak louder than words”.

He said that ‘Amma’ was “an ocean of love and caring” and after seeing her, everyone becomes more energised to help others.

The CM assured that his government will provide good governance with empathy as had been promised when it came to power.

State Ministers Ramesh Chennithala and K Muraleedharan extended their birthday wishes to ‘Amma’ via Facebook posts.

Chennithala said that the Amrita Institutes — which make the latest medical technologies accessible to the common person and the underprivileged — and the universities that stand tall globally in scientific and technological research did not come into existence by chance.

“They are the realisation of the vision of a great soul who embraced the development of the nation and the survival of the common people as her own mission,” he said.

Muraleedharan said that the service initiatives led by Mata Amritanandamayi in sectors such as education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid — offering a helping hand to the destitute, the sick, and the suffering — serve as a great example to society.
