Shimla, Nov 6 Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday said that during his younger days, he was not particularly interested in a government job and that his interest in politics grew after winning student union elections in college and university.

He was interacting with students at the Government Model Senior Secondary School and PM Shri Government Central Primary School at Mehla in the Bharmour area during his visit to Chamba district.

During the interaction, a Class 4 student asked the chief minister who had been the greatest source of inspiration in his life. Turning emotional, Sukhu said it was his mother.

Chanakya, a Class 12 student, asked what inspired him to enter politics. In response, Sukhu said he had a natural inclination towards leadership since his student days, and had never been particularly interested in a government job.

After winning student union elections in college and university, his interest in politics grew. The journey took him from being a class representative to becoming the chief minister of the state, Sukhu told the student.

The chief minister said that after completing his education, he subsequently served as a Municipal Corporation Councillor and went on to become an MLA four times.

Suhani, a Class 10 student, highlighted the shortage of adequate seating facilities for children in her school and requested the construction of additional classrooms. Responding to her request, the chief minister announced the release of Rs 2 crore for the purpose.

He also stated that the Mehla school would be upgraded to a CBSE-affiliated school from the next academic session. Land would be allocated for the construction of a new school building.

The chief minister encouraged the students to remain dedicated to their goals and said that hard work, discipline, determination and strong willpower should be the guiding principles for achieving success in life.

During his four-day visit to Chamba district, Sukhu announced several development projects for the Tissa, Bhattiyat and Bharmour Assembly constituencies. Across these three constituencies, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of various development projects worth Rs 656 crore, an official statement said.
