Panaji, Sept 22 (PTI) Opposition Congress on Tuesday launched its 27-day-long ‘Goy Rakhonn Yatra’ (Save Goa March), which will travel through all 40 assembly constituencies in the state.
As part of the exercise being carried out ahead of the assembly polls, scheduled to be held by March next year, several Congress workers conducted a march in the capital city of Panaji along with their leaders.
All India Congress Committee Goa desk in-charge Manikrao Thakare, co-incharge Anjali Nimbalkar, state Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Congress MLAs Altone D’Costa and Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Goa Pradesh Congress committee President Girish Chodankar, party’s local unit working president Sunil Kawthankar led the march.
The formal flagging off of the 27-day-long yatra will be held on Wednesday at Priol assembly constituency at the hands of AICC general secretary K C Venugopal.
Talking to reporters, Alemao said that the yatra has been planned to reach out to every voter in the constituency, who has been troubled by the BJP rule.
The Congress will listen to the voters from all 40 assembly constituencies before drafting their manifesto, which will be implemented once the party comes to power, he said.
The main aim of this march is to expose how the BJP government has sold Goa to the outsiders, he said.
“They have robbed the greenery by introducing draconian laws which give them uninterrupted power to change the land use,” he said.
The LoP said that corruption is at peak and the voters have decided not to re-elect the same government during the upcoming election.
The Congress party had contested the 2022 Goa assembly election in alliance with Goa Forward Party, cumulatively winning 12 seats, of which the grand old party bagged 11. Soon after the election, a group of eight Congress MLAs quit the party and joined the BJP.
