Mumbai, Nov 3 Reeling from losses in two seats in the Maharashtra legislative council elections, the Congress on Tuesday said it has appointed a four-member committee to conduct a detailed review of the polls.

Formed on the directions of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the panel, comprising senior leaders, including CWC member Balasaheb Thorat and MP Chandrakant Handore, will study campaign shortfalls and submit a detailed report to the state party in-charge, Dr Sirivella Prasad, in three weeks.

The other members of the committee include Arif Naseem Khan and AICC secretary B M Sandeep.

The Congress, which contested three of the five seats in the legislative council polls held last month, lost the Pune and Amravati Teachers’ constituencies. The party managed to scrape through, retaining the Nagpur Graduates’ seat.

The committee will review the election process, the party’s campaign strategy, the reasons for victory or defeat and coordination within the party, and will examine whether any shortcomings at the party level affected the outcome.

The panel will study previous elections to assess whether they had any adverse impact on the latest polls and recommend measures to strengthen the party’s strategy for future elections, the Congress said in a statement.
