Hyderabad, September 8: The political confrontation between Telangana’s ruling Congress and the opposition BRS intensified after police registered an SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) case against BRS MLCs Tata Madhu and Naveen Kumar Reddy over alleged objectionable remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
The case was registered under Sections 352 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3(1)(r) and 3(2)(va) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Saifabad police subsequently took the two MLCs into custody.
The development followed a BRS protest outside the Telangana Assembly on Monday. The opposition party had organised demonstrations accusing the Congress government of failing to fulfil its promises after 1,000 days in office. The protest turned tense after police stopped the BRS leaders and supporters.
During the confrontation, Tata Madhu and Naveen Kumar Reddy allegedly made strong and objectionable remarks against the Speaker. The comments triggered demands for strict action from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, state ministers and legislators from the BJP and AIMIM.
The arrests have further sharpened the political face-off between the two parties. BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) strongly condemned the action, alleging that the Congress government was using the arrests as part of “diversion politics” to shift public attention away from the opposition’s criticism of its 1,000-day rule.
