Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 4 They have won hearts on the big screen. Now, actors Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kunchacko Boban will use their popularity to spread the message of forest and wildlife conservation.

The Keralam government has appointed Prithviraj and Kunchacko as brand ambassadors of the state Forest Department, seeking to harness their popularity to generate greater public interest in nature and wildlife conservation.

The appointments have been made on an honorary basis through a government order, a release said here on Wednesday.

The two actors will help the department reach a wider audience through public events, social media and other awareness programmes.

They will share messages and videos highlighting the importance of protecting forests and biodiversity through the department’s official social media platforms, the release said.

Their role will not be limited to online campaigns. They will also support educational programmes aimed at encouraging children and young people to develop an appreciation for nature, it said.

The department also plans to use cinema as a creative medium to spread awareness about environmental protection.

The campaign will focus not only on conserving forests and wildlife but also on helping people understand the importance of living responsibly alongside nature, the release said.

The actors will encourage people to behave responsibly towards wild animals, respect communities dependent on forests for their livelihoods and support efforts to reduce human-wildlife conflict.

The government hopes their involvement will encourage more people, particularly young audiences, to participate in conservation activities, the release added.
