Gorakhpur (UP), Nov 4 BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday took a swipe at the Samajwadi Party over its prospects in the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, saying “punctured cycle (the party symbol) cannot run on an expressway” and predicted victory for the NDA.
Nabin boasted about the state’s infrastructure transformation under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while accusing the previous Akhilesh Yadav-led government of promoting dynastic politics and neglecting employment opportunities for the youth.
Addressing the party’s ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ foot march in Gorakhpur, Nabin further claimed that the fertiliser plant in the city had remained shut for 30 years before being revived under the Adityanath government.
He also cited the establishment of AIIMS and educational institutions, expansion of industrial activity and creation of employment opportunities as indicators of the state’s development.
Claiming that the Adityanath government had provided direct government employment to more than 12 lakh youths, Nabin alleged that previous governments had concentrated on securing jobs and opportunities for their own families rather than the state’s young population.
“They say the bicycle will run again. I have said earlier too that the bicycle has been punctured. Uttar Pradesh is now moving on expressways, and a punctured bicycle cannot run on an expressway,” Nabin said.
He also referred to alleged damage and irregularities at the official residence vacated by a former chief minister after the SP government lost power in 2017, saying people should remember what had happened there.
“The BJP-NDA is certain to return to power in 2027, and the SP’s defeat is equally certain,” Nabin said, predicting that voters would reject what he described as the opposition’s “anarchic politics”.
He also referred to the 2029 Lok Sabha elections while asserting that the BJP-led alliance would retain public support.
Nabin’s attack comes against the backdrop of the SP emerging as the BJP’s principal challenger in the state since 2017, and both parties have stepped up their preparations for the crucial polls.
The BJP has initiated organisational exercises focused on booth-level mobilisation and is planning rallies by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at divisional headquarters, alongside region-wise meetings led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The SP, meanwhile, has launched booth-level preparations and is planning a statewide PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) outreach campaign under Akhilesh Yadav.
