Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 3 The BJP on Tuesday organised a democracy protection march in the state capital, with party workers taking part in the procession led by state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

The march began at Ayurveda Medical College Junction and concluded at Manaveeyam Veedhi, where a public meeting was held.

Addressing the gathering, Chandrasekhar accused the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi of attempting to create unrest in the country through misinformation and divisive politics.

“If Rahul Gandhi dreams of creating a situation similar to that in Bangladesh in India, it will not happen. The BJP and 140 crore Indians are here to protect democracy,” he said.

He accused the Congress of adopting double standards on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Chandrasekhar said some Congress leaders had earlier expressed support for the exercise, while the party was now opposing it.

He alleged that the Congress and the CPI(M), despite being political rivals, were working together and protecting each other for political gains.

Questioning Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the problems faced by candidates on Kerala Public Service Commission rank lists, he asked what the Congress and the CPI(M) had done to address their concerns.

Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, BJP Kerala in-charge M Nagaraj, MLAs V Muraleedharan and B B Gopakumar, senior party leaders Kummanam Rajasekharan and P K Krishnadas, Mayor V V Rajesh and Deputy Mayor G Ashanath were among those who attended the event.
