New Delhi, Sep 28 Delhi Police has arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a cow slaughter case in north Delhi, an officer said on Monday.

The accused, identified as Aurangzeb alias Ajhar, a resident of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by the Kotwali police following an investigation into a video on social media that showed cow slaughter, the officer said.

“A case was registered at Kotwali police station on September 23. Following registration of the FIR, a team was formed to identify and apprehend those involved in the incident,” a senior police officer said.

Police said the team analysed several CCTV camera feeds to reconstruct the movement of the suspects and their vehicle between 3:15 am and 7 am on September 23.

The CCTV footage helped police track the movement of the accused, the parking of the vehicle at a secluded location and the transportation of the animal to the spot.

After nearly five days, the team traced and arrested Aurangzeb, identified as the main accused in the case. During interrogation, the accused disclosed his involvement along with associates in multiple incidents of cow slaughtering in Delhi.

“According to his disclosure, the group would identify abandoned or roaming cows, transport them in a vehicle to secluded locations and allegedly slaughter them. The meat was subsequently supplied to those involved in its further sale,” the officer said.

The officer said the police are verifying the disclosures and investigating the accused’s links to other cases in Uttar Pradesh.

“Aurangzeb has previously been involved in cases related to obstructing and assaulting public servants, attempt to murder, causing damage to property, cruelty to animals and violations of the Arms Act, registered at Maidan Garhi and Ranhola police stations,” the officer said.

In one of the cases registered at Maidan Garhi police station, he had allegedly opened fire at a police team and sustained a gunshot injury to his leg during the ensuing police action.

Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.
