Mirzapur (UP), Nov 1 A woman, her son and her two-year-old granddaughter were killed after a truck rammed into their motorcycle here on Sunday evening, police said.
The accident took place around 6.30 pm on the Jaunpur-Kanchanpur state highway near Dohri village, about 40 km from the district headquarters.
The victims were identified as Shyamrati (52), her son Nitish (16) and her two-year-old granddaughter Ankita.
Circle Officer (Chunar) Gayatri Yadav said Nitish, a resident of Bhadeval village, was returning home on his motorcycle with his mother and niece from Pipra village in Chakia area of neighbouring Chandauli district when a truck coming from the Sikandarpur side hit their vehicle near Dohri village.
The injured were taken to a hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Following the accident, angry villagers gathered at the spot. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Chunar) Anek Singh and Yadav pacified them by assuring that the family would be provided assistance under applicable government schemes.
The driver fled the spot and the truck was seized by the police. Police said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
