Agartala, Nov 3 Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has declined a place in the party’s highest policy-making body, the central working committee (CWC), a senior leader said on Tuesday.

Debbarma, who floated the party months before the 2021 Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, led it to become the second-largest party in the 2023 Assembly polls.

He quit active politics last month, citing health reasons.

The party is currently a partner in the BJP-led coalition government in Tripura.

“Bubagra Pradyot Bikram Manikya was invited and requested to become a member of the CWC of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP). However, he declined the position while assuring his continued guidance to the state and the people of Tripura,” senior party leader B K Hrangkhawl said in a statement.

The development comes as the party prepares to contest the civic elections for the first time.

Recently, Debbarma met Chief Minister Manik Saha and pressed for the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, signed in March 2022, aimed at the overall development of indigenous communities.

The newly reconstituted CWC has eight members — Hrangkhawl, Jagadish Debbarma, Brishaketu Debbarma, Ranjit Debbarma, Purna Chandra Jamatia, Ratish Tripura, Paul Dangshu and Keneram Tripura.

The committee also has three invitee members.
