Chaibasa (Jharkhand), Oct 30 Two live IEDs planted under a culvert were recovered and defused in Jharkhand’s Maoist-hit West Singhbhum district, a police officer said on Friday.
The explosives were detected in Bahada village within Chotanagra police station limits on Thursday during a joint operation by the CRPF’s 193rd Battalion and the district armed police.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Manoharpur) David Dhorey said the two IEDs were defused on the spot by a bomb disposal squad of the paramilitary force.
Security personnel launched an extensive search operation in the area following the recovery, he said.
The explosives had been planted few days ago to target security forces engaged in anti-Maoist operations, Dhorey said.
Claiming that the Saranda forest, once a stronghold of the CPI (Maoists), had now become a rebel-free zone, he said explosives planted earlier were still being recovered from different locations.
