Kolkata, Oct 30 West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Agarwal has directed all state government departments to dispose of inter-departmental references and communications within seven working days, seeking to address delays in decision-making, according to an order.
Agarwal said delays in furnishing comments, views or concurrence on references between departments often impede timely decision-making and the implementation of government initiatives.
In the order issued on October 28 and made available to the media on Friday, the chief secretary said, “All references and communications received from other Departments shall ordinarily be disposed of within a timeline of 7 (seven) working days from the date of receipt.”
The top bureaucrat also instructed all departments to handle inter-departmental communications promptly in accordance with the West Bengal Secretariat Manual, 2019, the West Bengal Rules of Business and other applicable rules and instructions.
He also directed every department to put in place a mechanism to monitor pending references and ensure timely follow-up.
Departmental secretaries have been asked to regularly review pending matters and ensure strict compliance with the instructions.
The chief secretary said that matters remaining unresolved at the departmental level should be brought to his notice promptly for intervention and resolution.
