Agra (UP), Nov 2 A 30-year-old railway officer was found dead under suspicious circumstances in his office chamber in Agra, police said on Monday.

The officer’s wife has alleged that he was transferred recently and had been facing harassment from seniors.

The deceased, Abhishek Singh Kushwaha, was posted as an assistant operations manager (AOM) in the Agra railway division. His body was found on a sofa in his office chamber on Sunday night, police said.

Railway Public Relations Officer Sanjay Gautam said Kushwaha had gone to his chamber on Sunday evening. When he could not be contacted despite repeated calls till late at night and his mobile phone was found switched off, a publicity department employee went to check on him at around 10.30 pm.

“He was found lying on the sofa in his chamber. He was immediately taken to the railway hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” Gautam said.

Police were informed, and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination. An investigation into the incident is underway, he said.

Kushwaha’s wife, Aastha Rani, alleged that senior officials had been mentally harassing her husband.

She said he had been transferred from Prayagraj to Agra around three months ago and had allegedly been facing harassment by senior officers since then.

After news of his death spread on Monday, railway employees staged a protest outside the Divisional Railway Manager’s office, holding senior officials responsible for the officer’s death and demanding action against them.
