Bhubaneswar, Nov 2 BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi on Monday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of spreading lies and misleading people to create anarchy in the country.
At a press conference held here as part of the party’s “Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy” campaign against the opposition, the BJP MP alleged that Gandhi and his associates were part of an “international conspiracy by forces that could not digest India’s growth amid turmoil and uncertainty around the globe”.
“Some forces that exist both within and outside the country don’t want to see India develop. Unfortunately, the opposition appears to have become merely a toy in their hands,” Trivedi said. “Are Rahul Gandhi’s bizarre and unrealistic allegations a sign of his childish immaturity, or is he merely a pawn of anti-India forces?”
Alleging that the Congress and Rahul Gandhi have become the greatest challenge to Indian democracy as they “try to create unrest in the nation”, he alleged the recent “mock Parliament” speaks of the “naxal mindset” of the group.
The BJP has launched ‘Save Democracy, End Anarchy’ marches across the nation as a counter-offensive to the INDIA bloc’s campaign demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and “vote theft”.
The INDIA bloc held a mammoth rally at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday over the issues that were preceded by a symbolic “public impeachment” of CEC Kumar at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in the national capital.
Trivedi accused the INDIA bloc of trying to create political anarchy by organising the “public impeachment” of CEC Kumar.
He also accused the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha of telling lies by claiming that certain officials were in contact with him and that the police who detained him outside the PM’s residence also supported his cause.
“Rahul Gandhi tried to mislead people by claiming that state-owned financial entities have been crumbling. They have become strong instead, and Rahul Gandhi is exposed,” the BJP MP claimed.
Trivedi also claimed that during the 12-year tenure of the Narendra Modi government, the proportion of the population living in extreme poverty has declined from 27.1 per cent to 2.6 per cent.
“Approximately 500 million people have risen above the extreme poverty line. Poverty in the country is declining alongside economic development.”
The Congress and opposition parties were bringing disrepute to democratic institutions like the Election Commission and the EVM system by their malicious attempts, he alleged.
“They disrespect the Supreme Court, forcibly enter the premises of All India Radio, and create anarchy by staging protests in front of the prime minister’s residence, all of which are despicable attempts at weakening India’s democratic framework.”
Trivedi said that instead of analysing why they were losing elections, the Congress is blaming the Election Commission and the electoral process.
“The party has not been in government in Odisha since 2000, in Gujarat since 1995, and in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar since 1990. It has been out of power in Tamil Nadu since the 1970s and in Bengal since 1977,” Trivedi pointed out.
Trivedi also criticised the opposition’s allegation over the SIR of electoral rolls as “baseless, irrational, and misleading”. “It is the desperate ramblings of those who have remained out of power for a long time.”
Noting that according to the Congress’ allegations, approximately 13 crore voters have been removed from the new electoral rolls, Trivedi pointed out that, “Of these, 2.8 crore are deceased, 6.30 crore have permanently relocated, 1 crore were registered in multiple locations, and 3.01 crore were found to be absent from their registered addresses.”
“The Congress, by shedding crocodile tears for these voters, is attempting to illegally include infiltrators in the electoral rolls, an act that raises serious questions regarding the unity and integrity of India,” Trivedi alleged.
