Panaji, Oct 27 BJP president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday alleged that Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders are trying to create disorder as they cannot question the Narendra Modi government’s development record.
Addressing the Goa BJP state executive committee meeting, Nabin said some political leaders are attempting to distort the meaning of politics and creating disorder instead of engaging in a discussion on development and governance.
“When we talk about development, some people do not want to discuss it. When the country is progressing towards its development goals, they cannot question that record,” he said, referring to Rahul Gandhi.
Nabin said he never heard the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha discussing development.
“If you have heard him speaking about development, then tell me,” he said, alleging that the opposition leader avoids debate on development.
Nabin alleged that whenever questions were raised about development, the Opposition tries to create disorder rather than engaging with the government’s achievements.
The BJP president claimed the Congress-led governments in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh have failed to fulfil their electoral promises, contrasting their performance with BJP-ruled states.
“In Karnataka, nearly three years have passed under the Congress government, but its promises remain unfulfilled. Himachal Pradesh also has a Congress government. Ask the people there what happened to the promises made in the manifesto,” he said.
He said Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Bihar are examples where BJP governments work towards fulfilling their commitments to the people.
Nabin urged BJP workers to take the achievements of the Modi government and the Pramod Sawant-led government in Goa to the people, asserting that the party would approach voters on the strength of its development initiatives and welfare schemes.
He said the BJP has resolved to secure more than 50 per cent of votes in the 2027 Goa assembly polls.
According to Nabin, the BJP will seek a fresh mandate in Goa on the basis of its track record.
While the party secured over 50 per cent of the vote in Lok Sabha elections, its performance in Goa assembly polls had fallen short of that benchmark, he said.
“This time, the entire Goa team has resolved to form the government by securing more than 50 per cent of the vote. We have to win every booth,” Nabin told party workers.
He said the BJP was confident of achieving its electoral objectives in Goa and in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, citing the party’s emphasis on development, public service and commitment.
“BJP workers will go door-to-door in November and December to present an account of the government’s work ahead of the Goa elections. We have worked, and therefore, we will receive our reward and the blessings of the people,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s welfare initiatives, Nabin referred to the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme and the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, saying they had brought changes to people’s lives.
He said the Modi government has shifted its focus towards farmers’ welfare with greater emphasis on their concerns alongside agricultural development.
Nabin also praised former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, describing his simplicity and integrity as examples of how politics could be conducted with propriety and dignity.
He said former defence minister (late) Parrikar had enhanced Goa’s standing nationally through his conduct in public life and set an example for political workers.
Nabin said Goa had played an important role in the BJP’s political journey ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, when Narendra Modi emerged as the party’s prime ministerial candidate.
The BJP president expressed confidence in the Goa government’s record, saying both the Central and state leaderships had made efforts to meet public expectations and deliver on their commitments.
