New Delhi, Oct 27 The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will deploy 700 hopper pickers by December 31 to curb dust pollution, officials said on Tuesday.

The civic body has also issued work orders for 70 mechanical road sweeping machines, including 55 electric machines and 15 CNG-powered ones, which are expected to be deployed in phases by November, they said.

The MCD currently has 66 mechanical road sweeping machines, 167 water sprinklers and 28 anti-smog guns operational, with locations identified across its zones for their deployment.

Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma said the civic body had set a target of improving and resurfacing 1,202 km of roads this year to reduce road dust, of which work on 745 km had been completed between January and September.

The civic body has also launched the ‘Shahri Malba’ app to facilitate the scientific disposal of construction and demolition waste. Delhi generates around 5,000 to 6,000 metric tonnes of such waste daily, the statement said.
