Garbeta (WB), Oct 31 West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday said he would unveil a compensation package for potato farmers in the southern districts who allegedly suffered losses during the last crop season.
He also said that every PM-Kisan beneficiary in the state would receive Rs 3,000 on November 5 under the state government’s farmer benefit scheme.
Addressing a ‘Save Democracy’ programme, Adhikari said the compensation package for potato farmers would be announced from Pursura in Hooghly district on November 5.
“We will give compensation to potato farmers who have suffered atrocities at the hands of the previous Mamata Banerjee government,” he said.
The chief minister asserted that potato-laden trucks would not be stopped at West Bengal’s borders from transporting the produce to other states as long as the BJP remained in power.
The previous TMC government had imposed restrictions on the transportation and sale of potatoes from West Bengal to other states in 2025, reportedly causing losses to farmers amid a bumper harvest.
Farmers had claimed that although the restrictions were subsequently lifted, they had already suffered substantial losses.
Potato cultivation is concentrated largely in Hooghly and neighbouring Purba Bardhaman districts of the state.
