Gurugram, Nov 3 A gauze and a piece of medical gown fabric were found in the abdomen of a 28-year-old woman during an autopsy conducted by a medical board following a complaint of medical negligence after she died during treatment at a Gurugram hospital, an official claimed on Tuesday.

According to the police, the woman, Manju, a customer relationship manager in a private company, was five months pregnant and developed abdominal pain on Friday, after which her family took her to the hospital in the early hours of Saturday.

The doctors removed the dead foetus, but bleeding continued, after which she was taken for an emergency surgical procedure on Sunday morning.

“Doctors attempted blood transfusion in the operation theatre and after some time, they referred my wife to a higher centre. We took her to a private hospital, where doctors told us that my wife was already dead. It was totally medical negligence and I have filed a police complaint,” said Manju’s husband Manoj Kumar.

The official, on condition of anonymity, said that preliminary findings indicate the patient died of excessive bleeding, but foreign objects recovered from the victim’s abdomen are a serious concern.

“All evidence is preserved and will be handed over to the police for further investigation. All findings along with the post-mortem report will be submitted to the district medical negligence board soon,” he added.

The official said that the board of three doctors performed the autopsy on Monday evening and recovered a piece of blue gown fabric and a medical gauze from inside the abdomen of the woman.

“The findings of the autopsy report of the woman have not been received officially yet. No complaint has been filed by the victim’s family. We will examine all technical aspects by discussing the findings of the autopsy report and action will be taken as per the law,” said Virender Baswana, Civil Surgeon, Gurugram.

A senior police officer said that an FIR will be registered after the report of the medical board is received.
