Thane, Oct 31 The Thane Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded Rs 30.36 lakh as compensation to the kin of a man who died in a road accident in 2023.
On March 26 that year, 55-year-old LIC agent Prakash Sachdev’s motorcycle was hit by a car in Ambernath, killing him on the spot. The Hill Line police registered a case under IPC and Motor Vehicles Act against the car driver.
In the order of October 30, MACT Member RV Mohite held that the accident was caused solely by the rash and negligent driving of the car driver.
The insurance firm claimed the deceased was riding at excessive speed without observing traffic rules. The car’s owner claimed he was not present at the site, and that Sachdev suddenly swerved without indicator lights.
These arguments were rejected by the MACT, which awarded Rs.30,36,418 after establishing the deceased’s annual income based on Income Tax Returns (ITRs).
Out of the total payout, Rs.17,36,418 along with proportionate interest was allocated to his wife and Rs.13,00,000 to his daughter, it added.
