Lucknow, Oct 28 The Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow on Wednesday said it has inaugurated an 804-metre section of its parallel taxi track, which officials believe would reduce aircraft movement time on the ground by up to four minutes and improve flight operations.
The section of the 2,864-metre track will become operational from Thursday midnight, while the remaining stretch is scheduled for inauguration by the end of March 2027.
“The airport is enhancing its aviation infrastructure through the phased development of a parallel taxi track to improve airline on-time performance and strengthen ground traffic management in coordination with the Airports Authority of India,” the airport said in a statement.
An official aware of the developments said the new section was expected to reduce the time taken by aircraft using Runway 27 by one to two minutes and those using Runway 09 by three to four minutes.
“Flight will airborne/chocks-on in time due to reduction of taxi time and runway occupancy time,” the official said, adding that the track would facilitate faster take-off clearances from air traffic control and quicker movement of arriving aircraft to their parking stands.
The airport handles scheduled commercial flights, general aviation and non-scheduled operations. It also serves as a diversion airport for flights bound for Delhi, Varanasi and other cities, particularly during weather-related disruptions.
The airport is scheduled to handle 134 air traffic movements (ATMs) daily under the winter schedule, connecting 20 domestic and 10 international destinations. However, it is currently handling around 126-130 ATMs daily amid prevailing geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region, with passenger traffic ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 a day, the official said.
The airport said the parallel taxi track was expected to facilitate smoother aircraft movement and enhance overall operational efficiency while supporting future growth in air traffic.
