Kochi, Nov 1 The Kerala High Court has sought details from the state government on the prosecutions initiated and fines recovered in connection with illegal hoardings erected across the state, particularly during the FIFA World Cup 2026.
A bench of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Syam Kumar V M issued the direction after the petitioner informed the court that flex hoardings were still standing in different parts of the state, despite the government claiming that all of them had been removed.
“The state shall file a detailed counter affidavit stating the details of the prosecutions initiated as well as fines recovered, if any, from the violators,” the bench directed and posted the matter for further hearing on November 18.
The order was passed on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Kochi resident S Sadananda Naik, seeking the removal of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) flex banners, hoardings and giant cut-outs installed across the state, particularly during the FIFA World Cup 2026.
