Bengaluru, Nov 3 The Karnataka government has signed a Letter of Intent with Business Tampere in Finland, to explore the development of a Creative Corridor between Karnataka and the Tampere region, officials said on Tuesday.
The LoI has been signed by the state government, under the Global Innovation Alliance (GIA) initiative of the Department of Electronics, Information Technology and Biotechnology, through the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), they said.
Business Tampere is the official economic development agency for the Tampere region in Finland.
The initiative aims to strengthen cross-border collaboration and create new opportunities for innovation, industry engagement and business partnerships across their respective creative technology ecosystems, officials said.
Speaking on the partnership, IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge said that Karnataka’s innovation ecosystem has evolved beyond conventional technology sectors, with creative technologies, animation, visual effects, gaming and immersive media emerging as important areas of opportunity.
“Our partnership with the Tampere region is an opportunity to connect two complementary ecosystems, create pathways for businesses and talent, and strengthen collaboration across industry, academia and research,” he said.
He said that through the Global Innovation Alliance, the government was committed to building meaningful international partnerships that open global markets for our startups, encourage knowledge exchange and position Karnataka as a leading destination for innovation across emerging technology sectors.
According to a statement shared by the Minister’s office, the proposed Creative Corridor will establish structured pathways for collaboration across Immersive Media, Digital Film, Visual Effects, Animation, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), and Gaming.
It will also facilitate stronger connections between startups, industry, investors, universities and research institutions in Karnataka and the Tampere region, enabling knowledge exchange, innovation and access to international markets, it said.
The initiative will be taken forward in collaboration with K-Tech partner ABAI/AVGC CoE (Association of Bangalore Animation Industry and the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics Centre of Excellence) leveraging the complementary strengths of both ecosystems to create meaningful opportunities for industry participation, talent development, research collaboration and cross-border partnerships, the statement added.
