New Delhi, Nov 2 A 30-year-old man allegedly attacked his wife with a hammer, repeatedly hitting her on the head over suspicion of an extramarital affair, in northwest Delhi’s Wazirpur village, police said on Monday.
The accused, identified as Sanjay, was apprehended after the incident occurred on November 1, they said.
According to the police, a PCR call was received at the Ashok Vihar police station regarding an attempted murder incident in Wazirpur village. The accused allegedly attacked his wife, Sangeeta, following a domestic dispute.
The woman sustained multiple injuries to her head and was rushed to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, from where she was referred to a higher medical centre for further treatment, police said.
The accused allegedly locked the house and fled after the attack. However, he was apprehended on the spot by the landlord and his brother, who subsequently handed him over to the police.
The crime team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team inspected the scene, and the hammer allegedly used in the attack was seized.
A case under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to attempt to murder, has been registered at Ashok Vihar police station. Further investigation is underway, police said.
