New Delhi, Nov 3 Protection of railway infrastructure, prevention of crime and the safety of passengers must remain at the heart of the RPF’s endeavours, newly appointed Railway Protection Force Director General (DG) Jitendra Kumar said on Tuesday.

“As the guardians of one of the world’s largest railway networks, we shoulder the vital responsibility of safeguarding railway assets, protecting passengers and ensuring safe and secure journeys for millions of citizens every day,” the DG said in a letter addressed to all officers and personnel.

“This responsibility calls for constant vigilance, operational excellence and an unwavering commitment to public service,” he said.

Kumar underlined that the RPF’s foremost priority was strengthening a proactive, intelligence-driven and responsive security framework.

He said emerging challenges, particularly human trafficking, crimes against women, exploitation of children and activities of organised criminal networks, demand heightened vigilance, swift intervention and seamless coordination with other law enforcement agencies.

“I particularly urge every member of the force to remain sensitive and responsive to the needs of vulnerable passengers, including children, women, senior citizens and persons in distress,” he said.

To stay ahead of the emerging challenges, Kumar urged officials to embrace technology, innovation and modern policing practices.

Advanced surveillance systems, data analytics, artificial intelligence, digital intelligence and predictive policing must increasingly become integral to the RPF’s operational strategy, he said.

“Accordingly, focused training, continuous upskilling, leadership development and capacity building must receive sustained attention at every level of the force,” he added.

Kumar highlighted the RPF’s vision to build a force that is technologically empowered, operationally efficient, professionally competent and committed to the welfare of its personnel and the public.

“This calls for collective ownership, teamwork and a shared commitment to excellence, with every member contributing towards strengthening the force and upholding its reputation,” he said.

“I look forward to working with each one of you in a spirit of mutual trust, dedication and shared purpose as we take the Railway Protection Force to greater heights of excellence and public service,” he said.
