Chandigarh, Nov 3 Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday asserted that the BJP will come to power in Punjab after the assembly elections next year as the AAP has lost public support and people are demanding accountability.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a state cabinet meeting here, the chief minister also announced that a special session of the Haryana Assembly will be convened on November 26 on the occasion of Constitution Day.
Various aspects of the Constitution will be discussed during the special session, he said.
The Constituent Assembly had adopted the Constitution on November 26, 1949.
Responding to a question, Saini claimed that the BJP will form the government in Punjab next year, he said.
“Under Narendra Modi’s leadership, the BJP is forming the government in Punjab,” he said.
He also accused the AAP of obstructing his programmes in Punjab.
“They are still misusing power… They go to the homes of the programme organisers and threaten them,” the CM charged.
Saini also mentioned an incident in which an assistant sub-inspector of police posted in Ludhiana’s Khanna was suspended after a purported video surfaced showing him allegedly placing a packet under a mattress at the house of Shiv Sena leader Mahant Kashmir Giri.
“Yesterday, a video went viral on social media. It showed a packet was placed in a home and then a police team visits the person’s home and catches him. But CCTV footage helped them.
“Such an act exposes the ‘gundagardi’ (hooliganism) of the AAP government. They should be fighting the drug menace, but they are getting people trapped in this manner,” the CM said.
Saini targeted his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann over his decision to recontest elections from the Dhuri constituency.
“Paanch saal, Dhuri say duri bana ke rakhe hain (for five years he maintained distance from Dhuri),” Saini said.
He said people have seen that Mann did not do any work and only cracked jokes.
Taking a dig at the Congress, Saini said that before 2014, there were only announcements and promises, while corruption prevented funds meant for development from reaching the intended beneficiaries.
The Narendra Modi government has effectively curbed corruption and ensured that the benefits of government schemes reach eligible beneficiaries directly. Today, financial assistance under various schemes is being transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts, ensuring that people receive the intended benefits.
Talking about Punjab, Saini said both the AAP and the Congress made tall promises to the people, but failed to fulfil them.
While the AAP had pledged to provide jobs to 25 lakh people, the Congress had promised to provide employment to every household, he said.
Five years have passed now and the AAP must tell the youth of Punjab how many people have actually been provided employment, Saini said.
AAP leaders are busy cutting ribbons and gathering crowds at events in Punjab, while the people are demanding accountability for their promises and performance, he said.
He claimed that the AAP has lost public support.
“The day the model code of conduct is enforced with the announcement of poll dates for Punjab, you see how many people turn up at their gatherings,” he said.
On stubble burning incidents, Saini claimed that numerous cases have been reported in Punjab, while Haryana has seen a decline in farm fires.
He said that the Haryana government is providing an incentive of Rs 1,200 per acre to farmers for stubble management.
In addition, agricultural equipment has been provided to more than 1.5 lakh farmers, enabling them to manage crop residue effectively and move towards converting it into a source of income, the chief minister said.
Earlier, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal used to raise questions about smoke originating from Punjab. Now that his party is in power in Punjab, he should explain what concrete measures have been taken by the government for stubble management, Saini said.
