Shimla, Oct 28 Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will lead the ‘Loktantra Bachao Arajakta Hatao’ rally in Shimla on November 1, Himachal Pradesh BJP president Rajeev Bindal said on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference here, Bindal said the BJP will organise four major padyatras across Himachal Pradesh.
The first padyatra will take place in Dharamshala on October 30 under the leadership of MP Dr Rajeev Bhardwaj and former Assembly Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar, he said.
“The second padyatra will be held in Shimla on November 1, beginning from the Old Bus Stand and proceeding towards Chaura Maidan. The Assam chief minister will participate in the padyatra alongside Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, MPs Anurag Singh Thakur and Suresh Kashyap, and other senior BJP leaders. BJP state vice-president Bittu Verma will serve as the programme convenor,” he said.
The last two padyatras will be organised on November 4.
One in Mandi, led by Jai Ram Thakur and former minister Suresh Bhardwaj serving as the convenor, and one in Hamirpur, under Bindal’s leadership.
“MP Anurag Singh Thakur, senior BJP leader Satpal Singh Satti and other party leaders will participate, while Randhir Sharma will serve as the programme convenor for the padyatra in Hamirpur,” he said.
Bindal said these padyatras are being carried out to raise public awareness about constitutional values, democratic institutions and “the Congress’s attempts to promote political instability” in the country.
He also hit out at the Congress and opposition alliance INDIA bloc, alleging that the opposition, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, is attempting to create an atmosphere of political instability and anarchy in the country.
Faced with repeated rejection by voters, the Congress is seeking to create Bangladesh-like conditions in India to bring about a change of government through unconstitutional means, the BJP leader alleged.
