Kolkata, Nov 3 ABVP, the student wing of the RSS, on Tuesday announced a ‘Kolkata Chalo’ rally on November 20, alleging that certain opposition groups were attempting to create an atmosphere of instability and anarchy in the country.

At a press conference at the ABVP’s West Bengal state office, the organisation’s leaders called for protecting democratic institutions and constitutional values.

Neelkantha Bhattacharya, ABVP South Bengal state secretary, said certain groups, including the Left and the Congress, had been attempting to divide the country to serve their political interests.

“This tendency of creating instability and an atmosphere of anarchy in the country for political gains must come to an end,” he said.

Bhattacharya claimed that the student community, particularly the Gen Z generation, had demonstrated awareness and responsibility towards the country’s democratic system and supported the ABVP’s nationalist values and ideals.

He said this was reflected in the outcomes of student union elections in various parts of the country and students’ active participation in democratic processes.

The ‘Kolkata Chalo’ campaign was a call to end anarchy and safeguard democracy, he said, adding that around 20,000 students from different districts of South Bengal were expected to participate in the rally.

The mobilisation would highlight issues concerning students’ democratic rights, national unity and integrity, and the need to preserve a healthy social environment, he added.

“ABVP appeals to thousands of students to come together on the streets of Kolkata on November 20 and make the ‘Kolkata Chalo’ campaign a success,” Bhattacharya said.

Arvind Bhajpaye, ABVP national executive committee member, and Swadhin Haldar, Kolkata Mahanagar secretary, were also present at the press conference.
