New Delhi, Sep 28 Members of the Sikh community on Monday staged a protest outside Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma’s residence over a video purportedly showing him slapping a man during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar.

Visuals showed that several protesters were detained as police deployed heavy security and put up barricades outside Verma’s residence near BSNL House on Janpath Road to prevent the protesters from reaching the house.

The protest came a day after a video circulated on social media purportedly showing Verma slapping a man who was recording a road inspection in Tilak Nagar.

AAP MLA from Tilak Nagar Jarnail Singh, who was present at the spot, had questioned the quality of a newly laid road and pulled out portions of its surface by hand. The man was recording the proceedings when Verma allegedly slapped him.

The video triggered demands from AAP leaders for action against Verma, with former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal alleging that the minister lost his composure after local residents questioned the quality of the road.

Verma, however, said the video being circulated by the Aam Aadmi Party was presented without context and accused Singh of demanding a commission from the road contractor.
