Malappuram (Keralam), Sep 25 The Keralam child rights panel on Friday sought a report from the health officers on the deaths of two children from measles in northern Malappuram district, noting with concern reports that both were unvaccinated.
According to media reports, the two children — a 10-month-old from Valavannur and an one-and-a-half-year-old from Ponmala — died of measles here within a week.
The panel, in a statement, said it has taken the matter on its own and sought reports from the district medical officer and the district child protection officer.
Ensuring vaccination is the responsibility of the health department, the commission said, directing authorities to check whether there were other children in the district who had not received the vaccine.
The decision was taken by acting chairperson Cicily Joseph and member P Shajesh Bhaskar, according to an official statement.
