Beed, Sep 22 A 33-year-old man allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself in Beed city of Maharashtra in the early hours of Tuesday as he was apparently distressed over marital discord, police said.
The deceased, identified as Dattatraya Uttreshwar Doiphode, was a resident of Kasari village in Kaij tehsil, they said.
According to the police, Doiphode had been under severe mental stress for the past few days because his wife was living away from him and refusing to live with him.
On Monday, he had come to Sant Namdeonagar to stay overnight at his sister’s residence. He allegedly took the extreme step during the night when everyone was asleep. The incident came to light around 5.30 am on Tuesday when family members found him hanging inside the house, an official said.
Upon receiving information, a team from the Shivajinagar police station rushed to the spot, conducted a panchnama, and sent the body to the civil hospital for a post-mortem examination.
“Preliminary investigation found that the victim was in acute distress due to estrangement from his wife, which appears to have driven him to take his own life,” he said.
