Tikamgarh (MP), Sep 22 Two cousins aged nine years drowned while bathing in a pond in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The incident occurred in Madnikhera, under the Badagaon police station area, about 45 kms from the district headquarters, a police official said.
The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
“Aniket, son of Bablu Ahirwar of Madnikhera, and Hemant, son of Devilal Ahirwar, were playing near the pond. They entered the water body for a bath and drowned as they could not judge the depth,” station in-charge Jayant Goyal said.
The children’s family was harvesting black gram near the pond when the incident occurred, he said.
According to the police, when the children did not return home, their family members began searching for them and found their bodies floating in the pond.
After being informed a police team arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and began further investigation.
