Aizawl, Sep 22 (PTI) Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district administration has called for stricter vigil against illegal cross-border trade along the border with Myanmar, officials said.
Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga, in a recent meeting, directed officials to thoroughly check goods being transported along the India-Myanmar border. He also stressed the need to take action against the illegal trade of vehicles.
The meeting, attended by officials of the district administration, state police, Assam Rifles and Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) besides representatives of Central Young Lai Association (CYLA), reviewed reports and discussed measures to strengthen joint enforcement, the officials said on Monday.
The meeting also highlighted the growing importance of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) road through Zorinpui for trade with Myanmar and anticipated increased movement along the route in the coming years.
The district administration stressed strict compliance with laws and regulations and called for sustained cooperation with civil society organisations to safeguard the interests and security of people in the border district.
Six Mizoram districts — Lawngtlai, Siaha, Saitual, Serchhip, Khawzawl and Hnahthial — share an international border with Myanmar’s Chin state. PTI CORR ACD
